The participants met in the Sun Square at Tandogan Campus. The OC member had prepared paper pieces for everyone beforehand. In each one of the paper pieces, there was written brief information about anonymous people with diverse life backgrounds from every part of the society. Everyone chose a paper piece without knowing what was written in it. Then they made a straight row side by side. Yaren started the game by saying some expressions such as “If you think you can access health services easily take a step forward.” or “If you have a physical disability take a step back.” Everyone took their steps, putting themselves in those people’s place in each question.
At the end of the game, everyone took a look at how everyone was located in different locations from each other. While some people were ahead of others some were standing at the very back. Each one of them talked about what are the characteristics of the person written on the paper and how they felt when they placed themselves with those people. At the very end, participants reflected how people’s lives could be so different from each other and they could be affected by appearance, family, social environment, financial situation etc. This event fostered awareness on social inclusion of diverse groups and communities, and raised empathy among participants.
