On April 23, 1920, the Grand National Assembly was opened and the sovereignty of the Turkish people was declared.

Atatürk decided to celebrate April 23 as a holiday and gave this holiday to the children. This year we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of our assembly. Due to the coronavirus, this year we will celebrate April 23 at 9 pm by reading the National Anthem from our balconies.
